What You'll Learn
First, in the Introduction to Lookups module, you'll learn:
- why lookups are massive time-savers for connecting datasets;
- how you can apply lookups with tables, Tables, pivot tables, across sheets, and across workbooks; and
- the pros and cons of the 4 types of lookups.

In the Prerequisites section, you'll:
- make a unique list of all the possible IDs ("primary keys"); and
- practice using relative, absolute, and mixed cell references.

In the =VLOOKUP section, you'll go nice 'n' slow through these steps:
- creating a unique list of all the possible IDs/primary keys;
- adding data from the first table;
- adding data from the second table;
- dealing with #N/A errors; and
- using helper cells to speed-up our process even more.
The formulas can get pretty long! There are lots of commas, dollar signs, parentheses, and quotes, and everything has to be in the exact right place, or the whole thing implodes. That's why we'll tackle the formula together in baby steps.

In the =HLOOKUP section, you'll practice almost the exact same steps again.
The formula will be slightly different, since we're dealing primary keys that go horizontally, not vertically.
In this section, you'll progress a little quicker, since it'll be the second time you're writing lookups, dealing with #N/A errors, and adding helper cells.
You'll love the flexibility of =XLOOKUP!
In this section, you'll practice:
- Applying =XLOOKUP to that exact same dataset again (so you can spot the similarities/differences between the V and X versions); and
- Using =XLOOKUP to join a vertical and horizontal dataset.

INDEX-MATCH is the Queen Bee of lookups!
In these lessons, you'll:
- learn how the formula structure of INDEX-MATCH is similar/different to V and X lookups;
- practice writing INDEX-MATCH formulas in 3 scenarios: based on 1 row, based on 1 row and 1 column, and based on 2 rows.
In other words, you'll be fluent in this jargon:

Finally, in the Slight Variations section, you'll use lookups:
- with Excel Tables;
- across sheets;
- with Excel Tables across sheets;
- across workbooks; and
- with pivot tables (to make maps and new-ish charts, like this sunburst diagram). Helper Tables with lookups are a required workaround in order to create maps, tree maps, sunburst diagrams, waterfalls, and other charts in dynamic dashboards.
